Copy statement given and signed by Denis MacCarthy, and witnessed by Fr Simon Murphy, parish priest, on 4 August 1871 in Kilbrittain, County Cork. A related note by Daniel MacCarthy reads: “I do not know how I came to overlook this document when printing the Pedigree ['A Historical Pedigree of the Sliochd Feidhlimidh, the MacCarthys of Gleannacroim']. It is important.”
