Scope and Content: Betham writes that he has not been successful in finding a link between Daniel's family and the Dunmanway MacCarthys. He notes that the MacCarthys now resident in Dunmanway, think that Daniel and Betham's inquiries relate to an attempt to find the heir of a large inheritance. He says he has however, found out the name of Daniel's great-grandfather and offers to send Daniel an illustration of the Dunmanway MacCarthys coat-of-arms.

Scope and Content: Betham writes that he has traced the true descent of Daniel, not to the Dunmanway branch of the MacCarthys, but to the Manshe [Manch] MacCarthys of Manshe "castle in the neighbouring parish to Dunmanway." He notes that the late Sir Charles MacCarthy, former Governor of Cape Coast Castle in Africa, was the chief of Manshe MacCarthys.

Scope and Content: Betham writes that he is still working on Daniel's pedigree which connects Daniel "with the ancient Princes of Desmond and Clancarty", and that it will take another few weeks to complete. He thanks Daniel for the offer of the picture and says that it will "remain as an heirloom with my descendants."

Scope and Content: Betham writes that he has completed Daniel's pedigree "after great exertion and research" and sent it to be bound. He says the fee is fifty pounds "which is very little more than it has cost me out of pocket."
