Russell thanks Daniel for sending him a copy of his book 'A Historical Pedigree of the Sliochd Feidhlimidh, the MacCarthys of Gleannacroim', and says he is glad to now know Daniel's address so he can send him a copy of a book he edited with John Patrick Prendergast: 'Calendar of the state papers relating to Ireland of the reign of James I. 1603-1625. Preserved in Her Majesty's Public Record Office, and elsewhere'.

Scannell writes that the parish priest of Dunmanway Catholic church has told him that the MacCarthy monument which Daniel had erected, and which Scannell designed, "required cleaning down" and that it would pain him to see it "in a neglected state." He suggests that he could clean it if Daniel sends him a cheque to cover his costs. He notes that he acquired Daniel's address from "Dr Caulfield" [Richard Caulfield]. Daniel's reply to John Scannell's letter is recorded in an undated copy letter. Daniel thanks Scannell for his continued interest in the MacCarthy monument in Dunmanway Catholic church, but says he is not prepared to incur any future expenses relating to the
