O'Hanlon writes that his own poor attempts to learn Irish were confined to "the Irish letters, which seem much less formidable than the Scotch and Welsh combinations of letters." He suggests several sources for Daniel's research on Irish saints, and asks if he may nominate Daniel to the Council of "our Irish Language Preservation Society".

O'Hea, the Bishop of Ross, thanks Daniel for the "compliment you have paid to me" by sending him a copy of his book, 'A Historical Pedigree of the Sliochd Feidhlimidh, the MacCarthys of Gleannacroim'. He says he cannot say for certain that the "blood of the MacCarthys became mixed by marriage with the blood of the O'Heas. You have stated it to be so; I willingly recognise you as an authority."
