Scope and Content: O'Donovan writes that he has examined the Down Survey of Gleann a Chruim [sic] and the source of the Bandon River, but cannot find any MacCarthys in the area. Describes the course of the Bandon River through County Cork, and the castles, townlands, and landscape features encountered along the way in great detail.

Scope and Content: This item contains two letters, the first is dated 8 March 1856 from John Bernard Burke, Ulster King of Arms, Record Tower, Dublin Castle to Dr John O'Donovan and concerns O'Donovan's plan to visit the Records Tower and view the MacCarthy Pedigree. The second letter is undated and is from John O'Donovan to Daniel MacCarthy. O'Donovan says has no time to write except to send on Burke's letter and to mention that his health is getting better.
