Callaghan thanks Daniel for his offer to send a copy of 'The Life and Letters of Florence MacCarthy Reagh …', and notes that he is struggling to get his own book published, titled 'A History of the Irish Brigades in the Service of France, from the Revolution in Great Britain and Ireland under James II, till the Revolution in France under Louis XVI'. He also regrets the "ruin that has come down on Dr [John] O'Donovan's family by the boys having been so unfortunately drawn into the folly of Fenianism by O'Donovan Rossa."
