Scope and Content: McCarthy says that he spoke to Dr Russell [President of Maynooth College] about Daniel's "thoughtful and generous offer", and wonders if they can publicly acknowledge his kindness. He says that George T Macartney visited him the other day and is "very zealous" in his efforts to elect Daniel as chieftain of the MacCarthy sept. He adds that he was "so much taken with [Macartney's] whole manner that if he spelled his name as we do, I should be glad to elect himself half Protestant as his is to be our chief."
