about being taken into custody in the Tower of London and almost executed for having a copy of the 'Nation' newspaper, which Daniel had sent him, in his pocket. He discusses Charles Stewart Parnell, Charles Bradlaugh, and [?Walter Besant] saying "we are living in very serious times."

Madden thanks Daniel for sending him a copy of [?'The Life and Letters of Florence MacCarthy Reagh'] calling it a most admirable work, and that he has been in contact with Daniel's "old friend" Denis Florence MacCarthy, whom he hopes will soon be appointed to some public office. The date of the letter is simply given as "Tuesday".

He asks Daniel to let him know when he is in Limerick if possible and that he hopes to one day have the great pleasure of meeting him.
