Scope and Content: JJ thanks Daniel for his new book [most likely 'A Historical Pedigree of the Sliochd Feidhlimidh, the MacCarthys of Gleannacroim'] and says that although they have not yet elected a chief for the sept, "it is some comfort that we have a historian [Daniel] and a bard [Denis Florence MacCarthy] who will not let the fame of our Clan die."

Level: file Extent: 2 letters (3pp and 4pp) Part of: PR70/B Scope and Content: Daniel writes to John MacCarthy [copy letter dated 27 August 1869] to ask if he will distribute copies of the 'The Life and Letters of Florence MacCarthy Reagh ...' to other MacCarthys in his acquaintance. Daniel discusses his desire to resurrect the chieftainship and title of the MacCarthy Mor, but notes that "our apathy in this matter is a disgrace to us all, and shows how lowly we are fallen." Reverend John MacCarthy writes that he would be delighted to help Daniel in distributing his book, and that he could help distribute 10 or 12 copies.
