Scope and Content: JJ writes that he sent Daniel's paper on sept government to all the MacCarthy priests in Kerry, and also to the Bishop of Kerry, JJ MacCarthy "solicitor, Cork", and Dean [?Edward] O'Brien and [Daniel] MacCarthy of St Patrick's College, Maynooth. He suggests that George T Macartney, Denis Florence MacCarthy, and himself meet in Dublin and form a "nucleus of a committee ..." He is about to travel to London for a month but will endeavour to meet them on his return.

Scope and Content: JJ writes regarding their project to elect a chieftain of the MacCarthys, that there would not be "any political danger in such a movement, I think there would rather be found a safety valve for national sentiment which otherwise may at any hour explode in a dangerous direction." He recently met "Lady Loudon" [?Edith Rawdon-Hastings, 10th Countess of Loudoun] in Scotland and asks Daniel to send her a copy of 'The Life and Letters of Florence MacCarthy Reagh'.
