Scope and Content: Eugene writes that this will be his final letter from Inchiquin, Clare, that he will not allow any employer to insult him, and that he will be leaving on Sunday. He notes that Dean Collins passed away in 1830, and discusses the complex genealogical connections between the various MacCarthy branches and other notable Irish families.

Scope and Content: Eugene writes that he is still living in Inchiquin with "all differences smoothed down and forgotten." It appears that he recently visited Dunmanway, as he writes that the MacCarthy memorial in Dunmanway Church "will testify to the end of time the position the MacCarthys occupied in that manor". He also notes that he was delighted to hear Canon Casey mention that Daniel had joined a list of subscribers for Father Hurley's monument. He tells Daniel that Eleanor [MacCarthy] is well, Angel Donoghue is alive at 90 but will not last much longer, and that Mrs Owen MacCarthy wishes to express her great gratitude to Daniel.
