Descriptive list of the Daniel MacCarthy (Glas) Collection
Scope and Content: Eugene writes that it is his third year at Inchiquin, Clare, and that he has been looking at purchasing a tomb for himself in the church yard in Dunmanway. He tells Daniel that he is hoping to be one of the longer-lived members of the MacCarthy sept, that he has all he needs in Inchiquin and takes great joy in teaching the local children. He agrees with Daniel's conclusion that Cormac Glas may have been Charles of Lorraine. The letter ends with Eugene wondering whether Daniel could contact any associates in Paris to inquire about his conclusion regarding Charles of Lorrain.

He notes that the MacCarthys and the Collins have intermarried throughout the years, and that he is waiting for a response from [?Leigh Mac Leigh], a genealogist. He says that he feels himself declining and that he still hopes to be buried in Fanlobus. The letter ends with Eugene discussing his attempts to get a monument erected in Dunmanway Church to honour the original "Old Root".

He notes that the Barry family of Killbarry attempted to snatch the legacy of Florence MacCarthy, and that it was a Cork tradition to send sons to France to be ordained.
