Scope and Content: Eugene recalls the older 'Old Root' and a Michael Crowley discussing the saying "'Shuldham MacCarthys (cush a cleigh)', which is a trite Irish saying for any one not well descended, cush a cleigh means by the side of the ditch ..." He mentions that Mr O'Leary has no taste for reading and would not appreciate Daniel's literary work. Eugene notes that while the Latin quotations in Daniel's book would not be understood by the unlearned masses, the National Schools have instilled a great love of reading into the rising Irish generations. Eugene then discusses the state of the MacCarthy Mor project and how he hopes more of the sept will be happy to have it reinstated.
