Scope and Content: Eugene discusses the matter of the election of a new MacCarthy Mor. He notes that MacCarthys of different families seemingly approve reviving such a tradition as long as it does not cause too much trouble. He notes that the MacCarthys of Dunmanway are much reduced. He promises to get as many MacCarthy signatures as possible when he visits Dunmanway next.

Scope and Content: Eugene writes that the account of Mrs MacDonald and her parentage is correct, that Cornelius Mac Owen was a first cousin to Eugene's father, and that the celebrated Father O'Leary was also a relation. There is further discussion on the genealogy of several MacDonalds. He praises Daniel for his study of Irish, and mentions his own poor health.
