Scope and Content: Eugene writes that few MacCarthys live in Gleannacroim, but that he would support Daniel's idea and the few MacCarthys there "would be glad of such a move ..." He also suggests that Daniel should send a copy of "The Life and Letters to Florence MacCarthy Reagh" to a Florence MacCarthy of Dunmanway.

Scope and Content: Eugene writes that he is determined to "eat [his] Easter dinner in [his] old native Dunmanway, (the town of the MacCarthys)". He praises Daniel for his study of Irish, and says that he saw in Saturday's 'Freeman's Journal' newspaper that Daniel has "banded [himself] with those who are endeavouring to restore [Ireland's] legislative independence ..."

Scope and Content: Eugene writes that he has been unable to travel to Dunmanway as two of his pupils have been "attacked with the measles". Eugene then mentions sending out copies of the 'Nation' newspaper to the MacCarthys of Duhallow, Church Hill and Glancurra, and that he will write to a brother of Father Collins about the revival of the MacCarthy Chieftainship. He mentions [Denis Florence] MacCarthy and his poetry appearing in the "morning news" which he believes was well-received.
