Eugene writes that he has received no response from Canon O'Brien and tells Daniel not to send him a copy of 'The Life and Letters of Florence MacCarthy Reagh ...', but asks if he can send a copy to Reverend MacMahon. He tells Daniel that the inhabitants of Dunmanway are very pleased with the MacCarthy monument.

Scope and Content: Eugene writes that after serious consideration he cannot see any reason to deviate from the first pedigree he gave to Daniel. He assures Daniel of the veracity of the various genealogies of Jerry na Duna, Felim Glas and how the MacCarthy families relate to one another. Eugene ends the letter stating that there is an gentleman called Denis MacCarthy aged 92 years who could also be consulted about the MacCarthys.

Scope and Content: Eugene thanks Daniel for sending Father MacMahon a copy of 'The Life and Letters of Florence MacCarthy Reagh', and says that Denis [MacCarthy] has passed away and he is unable to get any further information from Angel [Donoghue]. Eugene has discovered that he is connected to the MacCarthys of Watergrasshill [County Cork] through his father, and notes that they were of the Phale branch of the MacCarthys. The letter ends with Eugene promising to find the wife of Felim Glas.
