Scope and Content: Eugene encloses the pedigree document [not included] and says he will also send him the pedigree of Owen Glas to himself soon. He also requests that Daniel send to him another copy of the other MacCarthy pedigree so that he can correct it and he hopes Daniel will have it completed soon. He declares it will be a lasting monument and record of the MacCarthys and he asks for a copy if possible. In a postscript, Eugene asks if Daniel could send him the 'Nation' newspaper "now and again".

Scope and Content: Eugene discusses Betty na Douna, how she was "at the head of all the May-poles and other amusements then frequently carried on in the country ...", and his uncertainty if she was married or not. Eugene next recounts tales of Donogh Oge, his being a licentious tyrant and terrifying his men. It appears that some pages are missing from the letter.

Scope and Content: Eugene writes that he has written to the parish priest of Rosscarbery to find out the death date of John Collins of Myross. He says everyone is astounded by the death of a man called McGuire who was a great friend to the MacCarthy family. He notes that a Reverend Collins has enquired about Daniel.
