Descriptive list of the Daniel MacCarthy (Glas) Collection

Scope and Content: Eugene writes that he has received information about Felim's four sons from a Mr Collins of Drinagh, whose house was frequently visited by the poet Thomas MacCarthy, and that Mr Collins has many recollections about the MacCarthy genealogy and Thomas MacCarthy's sayings. He then discusses the election of a MacCarthy Mor and notes that there are two MacCarthy priests who could help with the election. He promises to send Daniel the finished document and a book from Father James O'Driscoll, parish priest of Kilmichael, Macroom.

Scope and Content: Eugene writes that he cannot provide much information on Charles MacCarthy of Lorrain [Lorraine, France] except to say he heard his father and John Collins of Myross speak of him in Dunmanway, that he was related to Felim somehow and that he was from Kerry. He promises to send more information about Donogh Oge and that he will contact Mr Collins about Charles of Lorrain. He then mentions that he sent Daniel's book on Florence MacCarthy Reagh to James O'Driscoll [parish priest of Kilmichael] and that both James and Daniel are related to Reverend Dan MacCarthy of Maynooth.

Scope and Content: Eugene writes that Denis Glas was the son of Cormac Glas, that Donogh Oge was in Bantry, and that a foster brother of Eugene's father visited Bantry in order to see Donogh Oge. He discusses Donogh Oge's life, family and the legacy after he returned to France. The case of John MacDonald of Monaghan is mentioned next and Eugene calls him a most respectable gentleman who resided in Dunmanway.

Scope and Content: Eugene writes that he has no more information about Charles of Lorrain, that he has never heard of a James MacCarthy Dooney and that he remembers Daniel mentioning MacCarthy Glases in the service of the French. Then, Eugene discusses the matter of [?Donch] Oge and his connection to the "Bantry Expedition", and his hope of perfecting the pedigree sought by Daniel.
