Extent: Part of:

Scope and Content: Eugene writes that he believes it is prudent to have several elder members of the MacCarthy family sign off on the chosen pedigree in the presence of the parish priest and that this will be difficult due to the distance between the relatives. He feels that Reverend J MacCarthy is too young at 25 but that Mrs Shorten at 80 should be more acceptable. Eugene promises to organise the signatures as soon as possible and to add additional testimony.

Scope and Content: Eugene writes that the signatures on the pedigrees have not been completed as he has had little time to travel, that he has been thinking of the renewal of the title of MacCarthy Mor, and that he has assurance from a Florence MacCarthy Esquire [Justice of the Peace] "of Glencurra" who is happy to support the "movement". He discusses the family background of Doctor Albert Callaghan, and says that Cronnelly's book [?'Irish Family History' by Richard Francis Cronnelly] is very popular with modern genealogists and that he has lent his own copy to a John Eugene MacCarthy of Ovens, Cork.
