recently in King Street, Cobh, resulting in pandemonium as there was not a hose to be found. Mentions President Cosgrave visited Cork and Miss Lonegan is to arrive soon and she has taken up fortune telling. May D. of Macroom wrote inquiring why the silence but Ciss doesn't feel like writing back. She told Teresa Lonegan that Seamus was to be released in July to be married and hasn't yet put her straight. Inquires what he needs sent and threatens to use strong language unless he tells her. 6pp

Letter from Ciss O'Connor informing Seamus of a public speech in Cobh by Maire McSwiney (see also "She is certainly a beautiful speaker and must be very clever to remember all she said". she wishes him success in his nomination adding she has had masses offered for him at Mount Mellery. Strikes have closed most of the shops in Cork, and emigration is rising. she promises to send parcels and wishes him luck in the election. 2pp

155 24 September 1923

Letter from Ciss O'Connor explaining her brother has been seriously ill and so she was unable to write. She has heard D. O'Brien was released and inquires if Seamus has had any word of release, adding at least he is in no danger. She has been trying to get away for a break but is too busy. Three liners left Saturday for America fill of those acting "as if they can never leave the ould country quick enough". Inquires after his moustache and promises to send a larger mirror so he can view himself more fully. Inquires also is he now curling his eyelashes (Note by censor "any further letter exceeding 400 words will be confiscated". 6pp

156 1 October 1923

Incomplete letter from Ciss O'Connor (also with warning of confiscation by the censor) answering his welcome letter. She teases he still doesn't write often even with so much time on his hands. Gives news of Joe Stacks brother's return. Mentions the bad fog that hit Cobh, and the failure of the 'Scythia' to reach Liverpool. 4pp

Letter from Ciss O'Connor declaring "This is a note of real abuse!!" She has heard he can receive parcels of butter and rashers and demands to know why
