III Material relating to William Masgeik, Chief Engineer, Irish Steel 1304 Copy of a report into the purchase of a local farm by William Masgeik, German Engineer at Irish Steel. Objections to the purchase were lodged by the Directors of I.S. who felt it would detract from his duties and local people who objected to the land going to an alien. Masgeik declared he wished only to invest his money in land after experiencing the post World War ! Currency decline in Germany. The previous owner will be working the farm. The report concludes Masgeik was ill advised by "a sporting friend of his" who was related to the farmer. 2pp 1305 8 November 1945 - 30 March 1951 Correspondence file relating to William Masgeik Chief Engineer, Irish Steel until 1941, mostly concerned with his permit problems. Includes 24 December 1945 letter to 13 13 Fitzgerald from Masgeik explaining the Ministry of Labour and Natural Service has declined to issue him a permit as no final peace in Europe had been signed. Includes 5-7 January 1946 correspondence between Fitzgerald and Sean Lemass, Minister for Industry and Commerce about Masgeiks prospects of employment in Ireland before Treaties are signed in Europe. Includes 18 October 1944 letter to Fitzgerald from Masgerk discussing problems he foresees in the methods chosen by I.S. to manufacture steel ingots "Why do these people not allow me to assist them in their efforts to find a proper solution". 12 items
