Journals, 1871-2002
Journal Books, 1871-1995. A similar type of record to cash books. Typical headings include date, name of payee, account from which payment is drawn, cheque number, amount, and other account details. This last is especially relevant where the payee is paid for more than one purpose. There is some variation in format and content among the journals. Journals forming a continuous record are placed together, which means the order is not strictly chronological.
B609/3/B/1 Journal, McCall & Co, September 1871 to November 1887. The journal covers the estate of William H Bennett and his representatives, as well as business accounts. A note inside the front cover states that this is the volume ‘referred to in the Affidavit of John Hallaran Bennett sworn … 23 day of March
