This sub-section contains records of purchases of barley, including purchase books, buying files, and some import and export records. See note for B609/I above regarding the locating of sales and purchase records in this section. See also barley purchase ledgers among financial records below (B609/3/C/57-68). Barley Purchase Book, 1909 to 1921. Volume records date, ticket number, name and address (of seller), barrels, weight, price, account, and method of payment. Purchases are generally of ‘stock’ barley, but some seed and roasting purchases are also recorded. ‘Return’s or tallies for each year also occur. [See also B609/3/D/1 below] B609/2/J/1

Barley Purchase Book, 1921 to 1939. Similar to above, but also records rail and cartage details. More seed purchases documented. Summaries and notes on harvests occur throughout. Summary headings include malting

barley, seed barley, suspense account, and Ferns barley [from Wexford].

Barley Purchase Book, 1955 to 58. Similar to above, noting purchases of feeding, malting, and surplus barley. The volume seems to make a distinction between barley bought for ‘Farrell’ [Youghal-based agent] and

that owned by JHB.
