B609/2/D/2 Returns of Production, including CSO Census of Production, 1909-65. Completed forms and returns issued by the Central Statistics Office and filled in by JHB as part of the National Census of Industrial Production. The Census proper began in 1943, and quarterly and other returns are made by JHB from 1943 to 1965. The earlier part of the file contains records of information sent by JHB to government departments regarding production and other matters in the years before the Census began. These include reports on the setting up of the Cereal Station (1909-44), papers on kiln-drying of barley, and correspondence with DoA. There is also correspondence with the Department of Industry regarding post-war planning (1944), and with the Labour Court regarding wage rates, 1906-61. Also present are letters from the CSO regarding the annual estimate of agricultural output (1950-65) [replies on reverse], and letters regarding a special CSO enquiry into stock and work in progress.

B609/2/D/5 CSO Monthly Inquiry, 1981-99. Marked as ‘finished’ in 1999.

B609/2/D/6 Road Census, 1926-58. The Road Census is the record of an annual journey around barley-growing areas to determine amounts of barley and other crops growing in the fields. The forms comprising the Census give a summary of fields counted and route taken, and records crops (barley, oats, wheat, roots, and grass), and total increases and decreases for each compared to the previous year. Greater detail on each route taken is attached. Reports prior to 1941 begin with a written report, while those from 1941 to 1958 are largely statistical. The reports for 1927-29 are described in their titles as a précis of an AGS report. There is no Census report for 1926, but there is a letter from A Jackson, AGS, to John H Bennett, forwarding notes on the estimation of area under crops. B609/2/D/7 ISO 9001 Checklists folder, 1997-99, and HACCP Manual, 2000. The first folder mainly consists of internal audit checklists for this international quality management system. The latter is a manual covering control of Hazard and Critical Control Points.
