Production Control: Statistics (1926-90) and Quality Systems (1997-2004)

Records relating to the overall control of production through reporting of likely intake and annual and other output, and the application of standards and checks to production processes. These reports and figures are collated periodically. Records relating to day-to-day intake, output, and production follow in the other sub-sections of this section. Note that Weather Reports (B609/2/B) and Barley Returns (B609/2/C) are not included here, as they were created and maintained as distinct series of records. This sub-section begins with files of data on crop production produced for reporting and statistical purposes (B609/2/D/1-6). These include agricultural statistics, compiled for government departments by JHB, for the Ballinacurra area. Also present is a file of other returns to government departments and the Central Statistics Office (for its Census of Production). Lastly, there is a file documenting the Road Census, an assessment of land under crop based on observation carried out each year by JHB. Also placed here are records of quality control systems, including manuals, records of inspections, management reviews, conformance logs, and checklists. Quality systems in use included ISO standards 14001, 9001, and 9002, with related HACCP (Hazard and Critical Control Points) documentation, required under the standard. Internal audits, under quality systems, and AGS quality audits are also included here. B609/2/D/1 Agricultural Statistics, 1889-1957. File largely composed of statements of acreage under barley and other crops for a particular year or years, as compiled by the Department of Agriculture, or by the Department of Industry and Commerce. The file also contains returns of acreage under barley compiled at Charleston by JHB. The earliest item is 1903, but a summary return gives figures for the Cork and Midleton Districts from 1889 to 1911. Departmental statements are present for most years from 1916 to 1938. Statements for Charleston Maltings are more intermittent, although statements for 1939 and 1940 are present. The final item is a news cutting dated 17 September 1957 reporting on the departmental estimates for that year.
