Weather Reports, 1931-93
Weather Reports, 1931-83. Weekly and monthly weather reports and summaries, compiled by JHB. Information was gathered for business reasons, but also owing to John H Bennett’s interest in meteorology.
Monthly reports are essentially meteorological, and were sent to the Meteorological Service. Weekly reports, on forms headed ‘Barley Reports’, were sent to AGS during the season, from sowing to harvesting. Most files include a year-end summary. Some files of letters and other notes are also present (see B609/2/B/21, 22, and 26).
B609/2/B/1 Weather Reports, 1931. Mainly monthly reports completed by John H Bennett, noting highest and lowest temperature and pressure, total rainfall, total and average bright sunshine, comments on winds, and general remarks. There is also a year end summary report.
B609/2/B/2 Weather Reports, 1932
B609/2/B/3 Weather Reports, 1933. In addition to monthly reports, this and subsequent files include weekly reports as sent to AGS during the barley season. These reports comment on the weather and general conditions during the three main periods: Spring (Sowing Time), Summer (Growing Period), and Harvest. All are for Charleston Maltings.
