General Letters, 1851-1989 (1826-29)

General and ms letters, outgoing, 1851-1989 (1826-29). Letters from JHB to various suppliers, customers, growers, offices, other maltings, legal and insurance companies, Cork businesses and concerns, and persons. The letters concern the day-to-day business and transactions of JHB, including those of the company under its previous name of McCall & Co, from which it was changed by John H Bennett in 1885. The sub-section begins with twenty-seven letterbooks, covering the years 1826-1829, and 1851 to 1932. Up to the early years of the twentieth century, these books contain copies of letters to AGS, after which a separate series of AGS letters was created (see section 1/A above). Some copies of letters to AGS continue to occur in later letterbooks and files. In addition to business letters, these books also contain copies of legal and estate letters, and some family and personal correspondence. Some of the books are marked ‘General’
