B609/6/D/7 ‘Notes on Sugar Beet’: Letters incoming, 1925-37. File regarding production of sugar beet at JHB’s farm. Present are contracts to supply beet to Irish Sugar Company, 1938 and 1945-47. Also present are letters from Cork County Committee of Agriculture, which had a role in distribution of seed. The file also contains letters from Irish Sugar Company, the Irish Sugar Beet Growers’ Association, and printed reports from DoA on sugar beet experiments, 1925-26. Printed notices to growers are placed at the back of the file. B609/6/D/8 Potatoes File, 1924-39, 1948. Includes letters from DoA and County Committees of Agriculture regarding potato seeds, cultivation, and export. A letter of 23 May 1935 relates to seed exports to South Africa. Also present are figures on costs of growing potatoes, e.g., for 1932. At the back of the file are printed notices, pamphlets, and news cuttings. B609/6/D/9 Pigs (and Sheep) File, 1933-39. File mainly of DoA forms regarding certification of pedigree pigs, licensing of boar keepers, and notes on feeding. Also present is a single certificate by an inspector regarding dipping of sheep, 24 October 1947 (the only item relating to sheep). B609/6/D/10 Maize, Oatmeal, Field Beans, Cabbage, Rhubarb, and Soft Fruits (Dates, Strawberries), 1932-39. File comprised of groupings of items relating to the above-named crops. Items include departmental letters, licenses, and information on cultivation. The maize grouping contains a number of licenses (1936-39). Oatmeal items relate mainly to registration as oatmeal millers, and to export of cereals, with reference to the Agricultural Produce (Cereals) Act, 1934 (1934-39). There are two items regarding field beans (1937), one item regarding cabbage [undated; 1935?], two items regarding strawberries (1932, 1936), one item regarding rhubarb (1938), and one item regarding dates (1936). At the end of the file is a memorandum of a [DoA] visit to England and Scotland to inspect cultivation of soft fruits, and growth of early potatoes (28 April 1932).
