Surveys, Plans, and Control Books, 1896-2006

Surveys, Plans, and Control Books, JHB Property and Equipment, 1896- 2006. This sub-section contains surveys and plans of JHB property at Ballinacurra, and plans of equipment fitted in premises, mainly malting equipment. Some related project files and planning and other correspondence in connection with building and infrastructural work also occurs. In addition, books documenting plans of equipment, gates and doors, and repairs and improvements are placed here. While the plans of malting equipment here bear relation to the malting process documented at B609/2 above, it was thought best to place all plans relating to premises, including those of internal fittings, and related inventory and repair books, into the same sub-section. The first three items are volumes regarding premises. These are followed by a letter and a set of drawings and plans of various dates, 1896-1974, relating mainly to the Charleston Malt House, formerly in the possession of the architectural firm the Southgate Group (B609/6/A/4-29). These are followed by other plans and drawings, and related project files, among JHB records. These are arranged chronologically. Also present is a file of planning and water supply correspondence with Cork County Council.

B609/6/B/1 Inventory of Plans at Ballinacurra on 1 st December 1910. The plans referred to are generally engineering drawings for malt house equipment. The month and year and a brief description is given for each plan.

B609/6/B/2 JHB Repairs and Improvements, 1910-33. The volume relates to work on malt houses and equipment.

B609/6/B/3 Gates and Doors Book, 1922. An inventory of gates and doors at each JHB premises, including malt houses, granaries, office, farmyard, outlying fields, stables, stores, Rosehill, and private grounds. For each gate or door the following is noted: locality; description (e.g., whether of wood or iron); how secured; holder of keys; repairs (including condition); last painted; and paint needed. After the gates and doors, the volume contains some other entries. Dated 7 April 1927 is a list of bedclothes required for each malt house. Dated 1924 is a list of materials received in connection with office renovation (Description and costs). There is also a weekly account of labour in connection with office renovation. B609/6/B/4 Letter dated 20 March 1996 from the Southgate Group, architects, to the Planning Department, Cork County Council, forwarding drawings to the latter, describing them as ‘surviving archival materials from the Charleston Maltings, Commissioners Quay, Castleredmond, Ballynacorra’.
