PROPERTY, ESTATE, AND FARM MANAGEMENT

Records relating to the management of the physical property and premises belonging to the Company at Ballinacurra, and of the Bennett Estate and Farm. Property records include inventory, valuation, and insurance records, and architectural and engineering drawings of buildings and equipment. Estate records include surveys, premises and rent books, and legal correspondence. Also present is an 1899 copy rental of Rosehill farm, together with a note by John H Bennett on his development plans, credit position, and value of his property [see B609/6/C/5 below]. Farm records (B609/6/D) include stock books and DoA correspondence relating directly to the Farm. JHB operated its farm as a commercial enterprise, though on a small scale relative to its malting business. For instance, it sold dairy products locally and contracted with Irish Sugar Ltd for sale of sugar beet. Some farm and dairy ledgers occur among financial records above [B609/3/C/19-22]. Farm staff are also documented in staff records [e.g., B609/5/A/3 above]. Experimental cultivation of cereal and root crops by the Cereal Station was often carried out on JHB farm land (and on the land of some JHB growers). This experimental work is generally documented in section B609/7 below, although there is some overlap with DoA correspondence in B609/6/D.
