EGMs were called to consider resolutions affecting the Company’s articles of association. The most important resolutions considered are those discussed at meetings on 17 September 1951 and 25 November 1952 [see B609/4/A/2, above]. The file contains a number of drafts of minutes and reports. These have been retained as some fill gaps in the record, although some gaps remain, and in some cases a draft, together with the approved version, is present. The Board minutes for 1965 to 1969 form a numbered set, so loose items relating to these years have been placed after the minutes on the file. management committee first met on 7 September 1951, and contained two AGS and two JHB members. It was set up to put the relationship and dealings between the two companies on a new, clearer footing. Meetings were held roughly every two months. A note of Barley Stocks is attached to many sets of minutes, and some other loose items are enclosed. The minutes run from 1951 to 1963, with single sets of minutes from November 1966 and January and May 1970, together with an agenda from January 1969, also present. The first committee consisted of Sir Richard Levinge, AGS, Chairman; Mr Mahon, AGS; and Mr Read and Mrs West, JHB. The committee discussed all aspects of JHB operations, including barley buying, equipping of malt houses, property, the farm, dealings with AGS, transport, and staffing issues. The Manager’s Report, giving information on malting in each malting house, was examined at each meeting. Many of the earlier meetings (e.g., 5 th meeting, 3 January 1952) were much concerned with modernisation and improvements. The minutes of the 48 th meeting (28 March 1958) contain an attached report on conversion of No 1 Malting House into a Malt Store, as well as a Cropping Programme for 1958. The meeting of 19 December 1960 discussed losses made by the farm, chiefly arising out of the letting of land to the Cereal Station, and costs from performing experiments for the Station.
