Fate of ship:
Desertion. The Merchant Marine Office at St John, New Brunswick certified that seven mariners were left behind at that port in October 1872 on the grounds of desertion (IMNCL). The vessel was subsequently moved from Cork to Liverpool, arriving on 4 April 1873, where the crew were all terminated (IMNCL). This ship sailed on the Cork to Canada route in 1871. The Deaves and Pims were prominent Irish Quaker families closely associated with Cork and Youghal. The influence of Deaves of Cork obviously extended beyond the Harvey Deaves brothers who went bankrupt in 1848 (see Apollo ). Captain Thomas Felkins (Cert: 11180), Captain Samuel Button (Cert: 25085) and Captain Francis Harber were identified by their Master Certificate numbers on IMNCL record.
Additional information:
Mate James McCabe earned his Master Certificate in 1861 and was Master of Hants 1867 – 8.
