Captain John Leonard was previously mentioned in relation to the Alarm . The Leonards were merchant mariners and shipowners from Kinsale. Mate James Daish commenced his apprenticeship in 1838 ‘cruising’ on Revenue Cutters. He obtained his Mate Certificate in 1851. A Captain Jeremiah Chard (b.1800, Castletownsend) availed himself of a similar opportunity (see Joseph ).
