19th Century Cork Sutton Mariners, Sailing Ships and Crews

in Lloyd’s proved to be two separate Captain James Malsers in UK National Archives, who were doubtless related. Captain Thomas Balley documented West Indies trade. Captain John Savery documented a voyage to the Cape of Good Hope in 1845 – 6. Quite an array of captains and owners on Lloyd’s. Unfortunately, identities of some of these captains has proven elusive, although the surnames are familiar in the Cork maritime community. The Merchant Shipping Act 1835 provided the First Register of Seaman’s Service 1835– 1844 and it is possible that some of these captains chose to retire before 1835. # UK Nat Arch BT112; Lloyd’s; UK M&M; Anderson, Sailing Ships of Ireland.
