This ship was engaged in West Indies trade. Xarifa was documented as one of the Hardy’s West Indiamen (Anderson).
Captain William Lane Tooker would live in Queenstown in 1870 – 1 and own a steam tug, Pilot (Reg: 11557|). Other tugs carrying the title of Pilot operated in Queenstown at that time (see the Scott Harley brig Anne ). Captain John Forsayeth was the Captain For syth (name variation) in Lloyd’s (UK M&M). Captain Joseph Barrett and Captain Forsayeth also sailed on the West Indiaman, Simeon Hardy . Captain George Havelock was almost certainly the Captain Havelock in Lloyd’s. Mate Frederick Wherland earned his Master Certificate in 1851 Mate Thomas Daunt earned his Master Certificate in 1857 (see Troubadour ).
