19th Century Cork Sutton Mariners, Sailing Ships and Crews

Harbour Commissioner. His oldest son George 1860 – 1911 was the Cork Market Superintendent while another son Robert Lionel 1875 – 1938 was the Cashier for Cork Harbour. His youngest son, John Frederick 1877 – 1937 went to Medical School, like other Sutton family members at that time, then became a chemist and moved to London. This ship commonly traded with ports on the Blackwater (Appendix 6: Port of Youghal).

Parrsboro, located near the mouth of Minas Basin in the Bay of Fundy, was a busy port and yet another centre of Nova Scotia shipbuilding in the nineteenth century. Captain John Prendergast, (b. 1823), was Mate on Little Queen 1841 – 3 when Captain John Prendergast (b.1797, Youghal) was Master and Michael Prendergast (b.1826, Youghal) was an apprentice. When combined with the crew list of Little Queen it is clear that there were at least three generations of Youghal Prendergast mariners, exclusive of Martin Prendergast (b.1818).
