Participated, under Captain Robert Mills, in emigrant transportation to Canada in 1847 (Charbonneau & Sévigny; Appendix: Emigrant ships). Foundered at sea in 1867. Captain Foster stated that the crew were rescued and landed at St Johns, Newfoundland 4 July 1867 (IMNCL). Another report stated that the barque foundered before 4 June. Her crew were rescued by Historia (United Kingdom). Urania was on a voyage from Queenstown to Miramichi, New Brunswick (List of Shipwrecks - Wiki). Whitby is located about thirty kilometres north of Scarborough, Yorkshire. The second ship from Whitby on this list. Captain Robert Mills apprenticed on William Penn 1831-4. This vessel (Reg: 33.754) was in North American trade under Captain Clarke 1835 – 46 and remained so during operation until 1864. Captain Thomas Cooper Clarke was later Master of Try Again before accepting the position of Cork Harbour Master in 1854. Mate Henry Heagarty completed his apprenticeship on Pandora in 1849 and earned his Master Certificate in 1852. Mate James Mahony, who served part of his apprenticeship on a vessel out of St Johns, New Brunswick, was previously Mate on the Grape of Cork for four and a half years and obtained his Master Certificate in 1852. Mate William Foster received his Master Certificate in 1866 and he was the captain on Urania's final voyage. Seaman (future Captain) Nicholas Reynolds would marry Catherine, a daughter of Captain George Sutton (b.1804, Clonakilty).
