Fate of ship:

Participated, under Captain John Barry, in emigrant transportation to Canada in 1847 (Charbonneau & Sévigny; Appendix: Emigrant ships). This ship (Reg: 32868), moved to the Port of Newcastle in 1868 and was wrecked when driven ashore at Great Yarmouth, 12 January 1869 (IMNCL). A North American trader of Quebec construction. Bourke suggested a Quebec trader of similar name and size was wrecked at Kinsale 26 Nov 1835; perhaps this is the same vessel which was salvaged. Captain Thomas Cooper Clarke would replace the retiring Captain William Preston White as Cork Harbour Master in 1854 and would hold that post until his own retirement in 1873, when Captain Henry Raynes succeeded him. Captain Nathaniel Sutton was coincidently appointed in that same year of 1873 as Deputy Harbour Master (Queenstown), replacing Captain Henry O’Brien. Captain William Dalton (b.1817, Passage Waterford) indicated his service here prior to assuming captaincy of the Nancy of Waterford in 1866 (IMNCL). Apprentice/Seaman Thomas Crofts Clarke and Captain Thomas Cooper Clarke (b.1808, Cork) were doubtless related. # UK Nat Arch BT112; CLIP; IMNCL; Lloyd’s; UK M&M; O’Riordan, Portraiture of Cork Harbour Commissioners ; Charbonneau & Sévigny, 1847,Grosse Île .
