Additional information:
This was another Murray vessel. CLIP documents that this ship (Reg: 1689) was both built in Ring (Clonakilty) and owned by Thomas Murray of Ring between 1858 and 1879, while an IMNCL report for 1876 indicates ownership also by Denis Murray of Courtmacsherry. Further review of IMNCL data shows Denis to have been born in Clonakilty and was almost certainly a brother to Thomas Murray. Both Denis and Thomas spent time in the 1870s on their fishing vessels; 24t Murre, 25t Harry and the 18t Ariel . Captain Thomas Murray was previously an apprentice on Catherine and Lark of the Sea (see also Bessie Bent ). Captain Denis Murray, who lived in Courtmacsherry, took the vessel out for the season in 1876 with a local crew trading between Newport and Courtmacsherry. The ship was subsequently laid up and Denis turned to fishing.
Mate John Brien previously served on Abraham Sutton’s brigantine Egmont in 1873.
