Fate of ship:

On 10 Aug 1917 the T Crowley was sunk by U-Boat gunfire 12 miles south of Hook Head while en route from Cardiff to Kinsale with coal. Her crew landed safely at Queenstown. This vessel was the first of a series of schooners that were built for Thomas Crowley by William Westacott at Barnstaple, Devon. He previously co-owned the Hannah (Reg: 8354) with his father-in-law, Joseph Hosforth of Kinsale. (Appendix 6: Shipowners). In 1882, T Crowley was damaged near Beaumaris, North Wales, but was repaired and accomplished an exceptional thirty-two passages in 1883, ranging from Liverpool to Penzance and Baltimore, West Cork (Scott).

Additional information:

Captain Robert Fowler previously captained the Hosford/Crowley schooner Hannah .

Mates Daniel Shea (b.1827 or 1818/20) could well be the same man. Mate Philip Coleman would captain Crowley’s Old Head during the early 1900s.
