An emigrant ship during the Famine. Arrival at St John, New Brunswick, 5 July 1847. This schooner under Captain Twohig was 43 days out from Cork with ninety-six passengers. There were seven deaths (Appendix: Emigrant ships). Sally was likely to have been one of the many fine schooners of that era that were built by the Browns of Passage West. (O’Mahoney). Captain Michael Driscoll, one of the older documented mariners in this catalogue, was born during the year that America declared independence from Britain. Captain Robert Twohig was the subsequent captain of Isabella and was likely to have been a brother to Captain John Twohig. Captain Timothy McCarthy (b.1795, Courtmacsherry) was aged 50 years in 1845, according to the BT98 Kew notes made in 2016. He was Captain of the 45t Nancy of Kinsale Jan-Jun 1845, followed by the 117t Sally , Jul-Dec 1845: he was likely to have been related to the McCarthys of Ring, Clonakilty.
