Mate:

Seaman:

Apprentice: Fate of ship:

Sold to Howard Radford of Cardiff in October 1817. Sunk by a German submarine on 26 January 1918, twenty miles southwest of St Catherines (Scott). Frequent trade up to ports on the Blackwater and Bride from 1883 onward, and into the twentieth century. Trade to those ports was fouled by hazards created by fishing weirs earlier in the century and limited to lighters. Captain Peter Farrell was Master of Patrick Gorman’s Anderida 1867 – 74 before earning his Master Certificate in 1875 and captaining Farrell’s Althea 1876 – 87. He sailed extensively out of the Port of Youghal and was presumably related to Richard Farrell. Captain John Mathias would have been the Captain of Rob Roy (Reg: 38748) in Lloyd’s and IMNCL records. His son was als o named Captain John Mathias (b.1867, Ballinacurra). Captain David Donovan was, I believe, a son of Captain Thomas Donovan (b.1831, Courtmacsherry). David Donovan would next captain the Nellie Fleming of Youghal from 1899 until she was wrecked near Ardmore in 1913.
