James Murphy J.P. (1769 – 1855), importer of sugar, tea and rum, founded a distillery in Midleton in 1825 with his brothers. He moved to Ringmahon in 1818 and built Ringmahon House c.1827. He was married to Mary Galwey in 1892. Their grandson, James Jeremiah Murphy was a founder of the Ladys Well Brewery. Captain J Galway in Lloyd’s was not further identified but could perhaps have been related to Mary Galwey. Captain Hugh Pollock would have been the Captain H Pollock in Lloyd’s. He later captained Joseph Wheeler of Cork. Mate Goonin was previously Mate on another West Indiaman, Woodland Castle , and would be Mate on the Joseph Wheeler and later Captain of the Ellen & Margaret. #UK Nat Arch BT120/4; Lloyd’s; UK Nat Arch BT112; UK M&M.
