Captain Patrick Collins was the son of Captain Patrick Collins (b.1802, Clonakilty) and Sarah (Sally) Sutton of Clonakilty. He would die in Milford Harbour later in 1861 (see the Wave ). Captain Patrick Murphy who sailed on Sutton ships, purchased Petrel from Abraham Sutton in 1878. Seaman Thomas Kidney, who previously sailed on several Sutton ships, would later drown at sea on 13 February 1879 when another Sutton ship, Shields , was run down in the Bristol Channel. Seaman (future Captain) Robert Sutton was a son of Captain William Sutton (b.1814, Clonakilty) and he later, on 4 Nov 1862, escaped from the destruction of his ship, Sophia of Liverpool off Cape Fear, North Carolina (Appendix: Sophia ). *IMNCL; Lloyd’s; UK M&M; UK Nat Arch BT124; Sutton Family History.
