Perfect commonly used ports above Youghal on the Blackwater.

Captain Samuel Woodcock was from those islands that inspired the name of the village of Scilly, Kinsale which ‘occupies a little peninsula and is said to be so called from an early immigration of fishermen, who settled here, from the Scilly Isles, W. by S. from the Land’s End in Cornwall’ (Caulfield 1879). Captain Abraham Edwards briefly served as Mate on the Countess of Durham before taking over as Captain of Perfect . IMNCL records suggest that Abraham was also briefly captain of Stonewall Jackson of Cork in 1866 (the name and date suggesting ties between that ship and the American Civil War). Captain Thomas Loughlin was previously Mate on Patrick Gorman’s Anderida . Apprentice (future Captain) Patrick Nagle) was on his first ship here and would later be mate on Richard Farrell’s Victor and captain of Rob Roy . *IMNCL; #UK Nat Arch BT BT112 BT120; Lloyd’s; UK M&M; Caulfield (ed.), Council book of the corporation of Kinsale ; O’Brien, Blackwater and Bride ; O’Riordan, Portraiture of Cork Harbour Commissioners ; Scott, Irish sea schooner twilight.
