Old Head would survive a U-Boat attack in April 1917 off the coast of Wexford (Scott). However, under new ownership in 1920, she was wrecked en route from Cherbourg to Shoreham without loss of life ( ibid ). This was one of the Kinsale Shipping Co. vessels voyaging up the Blackwater in trade similar to the Colleen and Marion and documented by O’Brien (Appendix 6: Blackwater). This schooner was the second schooner built by Westacott of Barnstaple for Thomas Crowley of Kinsale (see the T Crowley ) and named for the Old Head of Kinsale, a maritime landmark renowned for centuries and the site of famed lighthouse (Appendix 6: Lighthouses). Mate Patrick Collins shared a name, birthdate and birthplace with Captain Patrick Collins (b.1832, Kinsale), who died in the wreck of the White Eagle in January 1881.
