Fate of ship:
Laid up 27 July 1892 (IMNCL report dated 16 January 1893). Trade included St John, Dominion of Canada and the United States. A Voyage Account for 6 months (IMNCL) in 1890 has Hannah Sutton of River View as the owner. Master Robert Sutton 9b. 1832) was Hannah’s husband. Mate Thomas Sutton was their son. Seaman/Master Abraham Sutton was another son. Interesting to find senior Walsh and Sutton captains taking a ride as mates with more junior family members acting as captains. George Walsh (b.1856) would obtain his Master Certificate in 1880, while Abraham Sutton (b.1867) would earn his Master Certificate in 1893. Master Certificates of Competency required attainment of twenty-one years and six years at sea including two years of service as a captain or mate. Captain Benjamin Reynolds was married in 1866 to Mary Catherine Walsh (b.1848), a sister of Captains Edward and George Walsh. Captains Edward Walsh and George Walsh were brothers and first cousins of Seaman (future Captain) Nathaniel Sutton (b. 1855). The grandfather of all three was Captain Nathaniel Sutton (b.1794, Clonakilty). Captain Robert Sutton (b.1832), Captain Abraham Sutton (b.1867) and Mate Thomas Sutton (1871) were father and sons on this ship owned by Robert’s father , Captain George
