Captain Nathaniel Sutton was the oldest of five Clonakilty master mariner brothers and he had three master mariner sons, Robert (b.1826/29, Kinsale), Nathaniel (b.1832/35, Kinsale) and George Nathaniel (b.1842, Cork). Mate (future Captain) Denis Reardon was an apprentice under Captain George Sutton (b.1804, Clonakilty) 1832 – 37, a mate under Captain Abraham Sutton (b.1813, Clonakilty) 1842 – 5 and would captain the Sutton brig Garland 1849 – 62. Apprentice Timothy Hart would later be Mate under Captain Denis R eardon on Sutton’s brig Garland 1854 – 8.
