Fate of ship:
The Mary Jane sprang a leak and was beached in Ballycotton Bay, 20 May 1843. Her crew were rescued. She was re-floated 28 May and taken into Cork (List of Shipwrecks - Wiki). In 1874 the 63t schooner, Mary Jane , carrying coal, was wrecked on the bar at Rosscarbery. She was possibly salvaged. This vessel (Reg: 8476) was owned by Sullivan and Driscoll, both of Clonakilty, and then Hayes of Rosscarbery. Another Mary Jane (Reg: 8394) was active and sailing out of Youghal at this time. Captain C Casey in Lloyd’s was probably Cornelius Casey who captained the Bee (Reg: 29/30) of Cork. Captain John Stoakes documented foreign trade in 1840s. Captain Denis Farasy also sailed on Sutton ships (see mariner list). I suspect she was salvaged since CLIP documents her ownership by Michael Driscoll of Clonakilty until 1885. *IMNCL ; Lloyd’s; UK M&M; www.irishwrecksonline.net.
