8416), indicated loss in 1856. Abandoned at sea on a voyage to Marseille, 28 March 1856. Her crew were rescued by the Caroline (List of Shipwrecks - Wiki). This ship was a Mediterranean trader in late 1830s, West Indies late 1830s and Quebec 1840. Probably bui lt at Wheeler’s Yard, which was located just upriver from Knight’s Yard on the Lower Glanmire Road (McCarthy). Both these yards commenced operation in the 1820s (Bielenberg) (Appendix 6: Shipyards). Captain Hugh Pollock was likely to have been the Captain H Pollock in Lloyd’s; he was previously documented in West Indies trade on Ring Mahon Castle of Cork 1826 – 8. Note that the Pollacks became owners of Joseph Wheeler . They also owned a steam tug named Pilot (Reg: 11576) 1858 – 69 until that tug was purchased by Captain William Lane Tooker (b.1807, Cork) in 1870.
